Meeting notes + dictation, for Mac

You jot the essentials. Notinho listens for the rest.

Records your meeting with no bot in the call, transcribes right on your Mac and, at the end, merges the transcript with your notes into clean notes.

How it works

  1. 01 / 03

    Record, no bot

Notinho hears your Mac's audio and your mic and transcribes live, right on the Mac.

  2. 02 / 03

    Jot it your way

Fragments, abbreviations, arrows. Only what matters to you.

  3. 03 / 03

    AI pulls it together

Your notes and the transcript become a summary, decisions and next steps. Your words in ink, the AI's in gray.

Dictation in any app

Speak. The text lands where your cursor is.

In any app, press ⌃R and talk. Notinho types into the focused field, and a small floating pill shows the text as you speak.

⌃Rtap
Starts listening. Tap again to stop.
⌃Rhold
Push-to-talk: listens only while you hold.
esc
Cancels without typing anything.

The shortcut is configurable in Settings.

Meetings

It knows when the meeting starts.

Notinho gives you a heads-up before the meeting and notices when a call opens. You just hit Record.

From your Calendar straight into the note

Reads macOS Calendar, including Google Calendar synced to your Mac, and lists upcoming meetings. One minute before, it notifies you with a Record button and fills in the title and attendees.

Joined a call? It notices.

When Zoom, Teams, Slack, FaceTime, Webex, Discord, WhatsApp or your browser (Meet) starts using the mic, Notinho offers to record. And it stops on its own about 2 minutes after the call ends.

Any AI

The AI you want. Even no cloud at all.

Pick in Settings who writes your notes: a cloud provider with your own key, a local model, or Apple's on-device model, free and offline.

  • API keys stored in the macOS Keychain.
  • One AI call per meeting, at the end.

Providers

Cloud, with your key

  • Claude

Hybrid

If the cloud isn't available, no internet or no key, Notinho falls back to Apple's model and your notes still come out.

Light & private

Native, light, and your audio stays off the cloud.

No vague promises. Here's how it works:

  • on-device

    Transcription on your Mac

Apple's speech recognition (SpeechAnalyzer), live, right on the Mac.

  • 0 B

    of audio stored

Audio is transcribed and thrown away. Never saved, never uploaded.

  • ~0%

    CPU when idle

Native Swift and SwiftUI, no Electron. Event-driven with no polling, and it only transcribes while recording.

  • 1×

    AI call per meeting

One call at the end, not a constant stream during the conversation.

  • .md

    Notes in Markdown

Plain files in ~/Documents/Notinho. They open in Obsidian, show up in Finder search and work with git.

  • Keychain

    for your keys

API keys live in the macOS Keychain.

FAQ

What people usually ask before installing.

idle, it sleeps: ~0% CPU
How much does it cost?

Nothing. Notinho is free, a personal project. If you pick a cloud AI, usage is billed by that provider on your own key. Apple's model costs nothing.

Does it store the meeting audio?

No. Audio is transcribed live on your Mac and thrown away. It's never saved or uploaded. Only the text remains.

Do I need a bot in the call?

No. Notinho captures your Mac's system audio (the sound from Zoom, Meet, Teams, Slack, FaceTime…) and your microphone directly. Nobody extra joins the call.

Still, it's good manners to let people know you're transcribing.

Does it work offline?

Yes. Transcription always happens on your Mac, and with Apple's model the enhanced notes work without internet too. If you use a cloud AI and the connection drops, it falls back to Apple's model.

Which permissions does it ask for, and why?

Only what it needs, each for a reason:

  • Microphone: to hear your voice in meetings and dictation.
  • System audio recording: to hear the other side of the call, the sound coming out of Zoom, Meet, Teams and the like.
  • Calendar: to list upcoming meetings and fill in the title and attendees.
  • Notifications: to give you a heads-up 1 minute before a meeting, and when a call starts.
  • Accessibility: to type dictated text into the focused field.
Why ⌃R?

R for record. It's within easy reach of your left hand and doesn't use ⌘, so it stays clear of common Mac shortcuts. If it clashes with something you use, like reverse history search in the terminal, change it in Settings.

Which languages does it understand?

Portuguese and English for now. More languages are on the way.

Where do my notes live?

In Markdown files in ~/Documents/Notinho, on your Mac. Open them in Obsidian, find them with Finder search or keep them in git. There's no account, and your notes never pass through a Notinho server.

Your next meeting is already a note.

Free, native and on your Mac. Install it before your next standup.
